Generalizability of the Korean Version of Dementia Rating Scale

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the hypertensive patients could be included in standardizing the Korean version of Dementia Rating Scale (K-DRS). Thus, the K-DRS was administered to 100 healthy elderly persons and 105 hypertensive patients who were from 55 to 84 years old. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the total score and sub-test scores. At the same time, there was no difference between the two groups in frequency of dementia occurrence according to the K-DRS criteria. The findings suggested that the elderly people with hypertension should be included in the K-DRS standardization. However, the frequency of dementia occurrence for the current sample was much higher than the traditionally accepted frequency. This issue was discussed in the context of the ecological validity for the elderly Koreans.
